Macon – A Macon man pleaded guilty Tuesday to his part in a 2017 shooting.
A trial had been set to begin Tuesday for 24-year-old Kendre Sherrick Brown. Brown pleaded guilty to aggravated assault before jury selection began. A judge sentenced him to 20 years. The first 10 years of Brown’s sentence must be served in prison.
If the case had gone to trial, prosecutor Jonathan Gordon would have presented evidence showing Brown approached another man at about 2:30 a.m. Aug. 13, 2017 at a bootleg house on Taylor Street in east Macon. The man had been talking with Brown’s sister. Moments later, Brown shot the man four times.
Speaking after the hearing, District Attorney David Cooke said, “Acts of senseless violence threaten too many innocent lives in our community. Mr. Brown will be a much older man when he gets out of prison. I hope when that happens he will have the maturity to match his age.”
Brown was charged with an additional two counts of influencing a witness Tuesday on allegations he offered money to witnesses to persuade them not to testify in this week’s trial. Although he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, Brown is presumed innocent of the new charges unless and until he is proven guilty in court.
