Shane Edwards, a native of Macon, Georgia, graduated from Central High School in 1987.  Shortly after graduating, he began his career with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department rising through the ranks of Private, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and Assistant Fire Chief. On January 18, 2022 he was appointed to the position of Fire Chief by the Honorable Mayor Lester M. Miller.

Chief Edwards’ educational background and Specialized Training in Fire Service has earned him several notable certifications such as State Certified Firefighter, National and State Recognized Emergency Medical Technician, CPR Instructor, Swift Water Rescue Diver, Hazardous Material Technician and Georgia Search and Rescue Task Force team member. Chief Edwards obtained an Associate in Fire Science and continued his formal education graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Administration.

While serving as a GSAR Task Force Leader, Chief Edwards was deployed to St. Simons Island where he aided other public safety officials at the G-8 Summit in June of 2005.  Three months later he was deployed and assisted in the Rescue and Recovery efforts of Hurricane Katrina victims in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana.

In 2008, Chief Edwards was given the opportunity to serve as a Loaned Executive at the United Way of Central Georgia and went on to serve as a board member and chaired the Community Impact Team.  He also serves as a Leadership Board Member for the American Cancer Society where he is a lifelong advocate and has coordinated logistics for the Bibb County Relay for Life for many years. In 2015 he was nominated and accepted into the Kiwanis Club of Macon and is currently serving as a board member.

Chief Edwards has received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career.  He has been named Firefighter of the Year by the VFW Post 658, Firefighter of the Year by the Macon Evening Lions Club and is the recipient of the Macon Exchange Club Service Award.

Chief Shane Edwards continues to pray for the wisdom and knowledge to fulfill his personal goal of making certain that all of the Macon-Bibb County Firefighters are able to return home safely to their families, as he has been so fortunate to fulfill with his wife Mickie and their daughter Emily.  He hopes to continue strengthening the core of the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department and serving the citizens of Macon and Bibb County for many more years to come.
