HOPE Inside Macon-Bibb has successful start

Though only in operation for six months, HOPE Inside Macon-Bibb is already having a greater impact on the financial stability of the community than was anticipated. Among its several programs offered, the goal was to serve 318 people in this time, but the counselors were able to work with 380 people.

Of those, 71% were women, and 95% were Black/Non-Hispanic. At program enrollment, participants had an average household income of $25,863. In addition, 83% of clients are considered low-to-moderate income individuals as they earn less than 71% of the 2016 estimated HUD area median family income ($48,100).

“Through HOPE Inside Macon-Bibb, we are reaching the people that need us the most, whether it’s budget development, learning the importance of a strong credit score, or getting connected with other financial education services,” says Dr. James Bumpus, Macon-Bibb Office of Small Business Director. “By teaching people how to budget wisely and helping them improve their credit score, our entire community will benefit.”
