United Way of Central Georgia recently presented their first ever Lt. Randy Parker Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award. The award was named in memory of Macon-Bibb Fire Fighter, Lt. Randy Parker, who heroically gave his life in the line on duty.
“Lt. Parker served as a United Way Loaned Executive in 2010 and was very proud of his time at United Way,” stated George McCanless, President & CEO of United Way of Central Georgia. “We wanted to find a way to honor Lt. Parker, his family and the Macon Bibb Fire Department, and so we asked them if they would allow us to name this award in his honor.”
The award was introduced by Chief Marvin Riggins and presented by Lt. Parker’s wife, Sandie Parker, to this year’s recipient, Macon-Bibb County Campaign Coordinator Janice Ross. The award was created to recognize an Outstanding United Way Campaign Coordinator.
“Under Janice’s leadership, Macon-Bibb County almost doubled their United Way Campaign,” stated Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Marvin Riggins. “All of this was done with a smile on her face and always the warmest greetings. She is the prime example of what it takes to be an amazing campaign coordinator.”
