The Girls Dig Deeper Initiative (GDDI) is getting ready to begin its Dig Deep Series, a journey focused on exploring essential leadership values that are shared, introduced and practiced with youth and students.
Through the series, participants will dig deep into these values and learn how to apply them effectively in both their professional and personal lives. This opportunity is open to 20 girls ages 13 through 17 at no cost to them.
“We hope the girls will be able to learn and apply these leadership values effectively in their both their personal and future careers,” said GDDI Founder Najiva Timothee.
These mentoring sessions will be held every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month at Rosa Jackson Recreation Center (1211 Maynard Street) from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
GDDI received $15,500 in grant funding in 2023 from the Macon Violence Prevention (MVP) program. In the first round of funding, they received $5,500 and in the second round this year, they received $10,000 to offer leadership development programs designed to help young girls overcome barriers such as childhood poverty, chronic absenteeism, poor academic achievement, disability, adverse childhood experiences and community violence.
