At the May 15, 2018 Commission meeting, Pastor Eddie D. Smith, Sr. from Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church led the invocation.

In honor of Public Works Week, which is May 21 through May 26, Mayor Reichert read a proclamation declaring those days Public Works Week in Macon-Bibb County. It’s a way of giving a big THANK YOU to the men and women in the Public Works, Solid Waste, and Parks & Beautification Departments. Our IT Department was recognized for awards they’ve received. Director Brett Lavender and the GIS division were awarded the GMIS Project of the Year Award for MaconInsights.com and they were nominated for GMIS International G2 Award. Lavender received the Spirit of GMIS Award and was nominated for the GMIS International Hershel Strickland Award. You can watch and learn more about their accolades here.  AGENDA ITEMS

District 3 Commissioner Elaine Lucas was approved to serve on the Pension Trustee Board for the Macon-Bibb County Pension Plan.

Nikki Randall with Navicent Health is appointed to serve on the Macon Bibb County Industrial Authority. Learn more here.

Commissioners approved an agreement with MYDGOLF, LLC for design services at Bowden Golf Course, to be paid for with SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) funds, for an ongoing improvement project.

The board authorized payments from the SPLOST to Georgia Power to relocate utility poles along Jeffersonville Road as part of a major improvement project.

Commissioners approved purchasing new lighting for the brand new South Bibb Recreation Center. That will come from Musco Lighting, and Middle Georgia Outdoor Lighting will install those lights. Both the purchase and installation are paid for with SPLOST funds. The new center will be open Memorial Day Weekend!

The IT Department is approved to purchase a data storage cluster. The Commission approved the purchase order with Dell Computer Corporation.

Commissioners voted to accept a $50,000 Criminal Justice Coordinating Council 2017 Violence Against Women Act Allocation Grant for the Solicitor General’s Office.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office has received a $5,000 grant from Community Foundation of Central Georgia for the C.H.A.M.P.S. (Choosing Healthy Activities and Methods Promoting Safety) educational programs for 5th grade students during the 2018/2019 school year.

County commissioners approved an additional $400,000 from the Macon-Bibb fund balance for Outside Counsel through the County Attorney’s Office.

The parking lot at 412 New Street has been conveyed to Urban Development Authority so it can be leased to support property development in the Central Business District. Learn more about this deal by clicking here.

Commissioners voted to change the entrance fees for gated parks. It’s now free for anyone under age of 18, and Sandy Beach Water Park season pass holders can get summer parking pass for $30.
