People in our community had the opportunity to share their ideas and ask questions about the new Macon Mall amphitheater. More than 60 people stopped by the mall Thursday, March 3 to talk to the Design Build Team.
County leaders and the team held two public input sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, so everyone got the opportunity to attend, see the renderings up close, and ask questions. Urban Development Authority Executive Director Alex Morrison says the conversations were very productive.
“We heard the concerns of neighbors who, despite worrying about noise, are thrilled at the prospect of having this first-class facility in their neighborhood,” said Morrison. “The dozens of people who shared their views all expressed excitement of having this spark and gave nuanced feedback into who will be patrons and customers of the amphitheater and the mall.”
People filled out questionnaires with information about who they want to see perform at the amphitheater, what businesses they want to come to the mall, what food and beverages they would like at an event, and more. The Design Build Team will take these suggestions into consideration throughout the process. If you missed the session, you can take that survey here until Friday, March 11.
“It was critical to let folks know the images being reviewed were the initial ones, and the next step is to work with Macon-Bibb community’s input and adjust the design accordingly. We want this new district to be as welcoming and inspiring as it is functional,” said TVS Design Principal Emery Leonard.
Last month, Macon-Bibb County Urban Development Authority – acting on behalf of Macon-Bibb County – approved the selection of TVS, Piedmont Construction Group, Stage Front, and HGOR as the Design/Build Team for the new outdoor amphitheater. You can read more here.
