Earlier this month, we honored former Assistant Deputy Chief Clerk Natalie Callaway with a plaque commemorating 44 years of service to the City of Macon and Macon-Bibb County.

Callaway began her career with the City of Macon in 1979, as a Data Entry Clerk, back when they had to enter all information manually. She was integral in the process of shifting things over to new computer software. 

“From there, I kind of just worked my way up the ladder,” said Callaway. “I had a lot of training from the University of Georgia, where I would have to go off site to get supervisor training.” 

As Assistant Deputy Chief Clerk, she monitored the data entry process, but helped out and took things into her own hands, as she is certified with the Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC). She says she’ll miss her early mornings, preparing information for the judge and probation court, and working alongside her team. 

“I always told the ladies, treat everyone the way you like to be treated, even on the worst days,” she said. 

Callaway retired in October 2023, and while she does miss it, she’s grateful to spend extra time with her grandson and her husband who has been battling cancer since 2014.
