Macon-Bibb promoting Christmas Tree recycling

by | Jan 7, 2022 | Community News, News

Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful will hold its annual “Bring One for the Chipper” program, which recycles Christmas trees, on Saturday, January 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the open field near the corner of Riverside Drive and Spring Street. Those who bring an undecorated tree to recycle will receive a bag of mulch or a free cherry tree sapling.
“This is an easy way for us to help people get rid of their old trees, as well as create mulch that can be used around the community,” says KMBBC Chair Jean Bragg. “Last year, crews recycled more than 1,000 trees and turned them into five tons of mulch.”
“This is a great way for people to properly dispose of their trees, plant new trees, and get mulch for their gardens or compost piles,” says Parks & Beautification Director Mike Glisson, whose crews will be on hand to help unload trees, scoop the mulch, and help out in any way possible. “Any mulch not given to people will be used in our public parks.”
In years past Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful has given away small Yoshino saplings, compliments of the Fickling Family Foundation. They are continuing this tradition with larger trees and other varieties including, Autumnalis, Okame, and Kanzan trees and saplings will range from 15 to 36 inches depending on the variety.
