This was Jeanetta Watson’s last week as Elections Supervisor for the Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections as she goes into retirement. Her team threw her a party on Tuesday to honor and celebrate her.
Watson has been with the Board of Elections for 15 years. She worked her way to be the first ever African American Elections Supervisor for Macon-Bibb County. During her time, she has led several elections and in 2021, she received the Phoenix Award for the Georgia Association of Voter Registration and Elections Officials (GAVREO).
“This woman has been my rock. She kept this board and this office afloat with her dynamic staff,” said Board of Elections member Darius Maynard. “I want to thank you, Jeanetta, for continuing to make sure we followed the law.”
“She didn’t care if you were democrat or republican. She just wanted it done right,” said Board of Elections member Mike Kaplan. “She cared about what happened here.”
During her party, Watson thanked her staff and board for their effort in getting elections done right with large turnouts, multiple counts, and even some anger from people who were voting.
“We did what we did to the best of our ability to make sure people’s votes were counted,” said Watson. “I will miss all of you.”
