About 400 people made their way to Wesleyan College over the weekend to learn about ways to stay prepared in case disaster ever strikes. Our Emergency Management Agency (EMA) hosted its Emergency Preparedness Fair on Saturday, May 30, with about 20 agency partners.
People of all ages were able to get first-hand information from organizations such as the Fire Department, Sheriff’s Office, Animal Welfare, NotiVision, Department of Public Health, Piedmont Occupational Medicine and Piedmont Macon, Stop the Bleed, and more.
Irving Tissue was a key partner this year and provided hotdogs and hamburgers for all guests.
“The Preparedness Fair was a wonderful success, connecting residents with vital local resources to help them stay safe and ready—especially as we head into what’s expected to be an amplified hurricane season,” said Special Projects Officer. “Being informed and equipped today means being resilient tomorrow.”
“Ensuring that the people who live, work, and play in Macon-Bibb County are prepared for disasters is one of the most important jobs we do in emergency management. We cannot do this alone; emergency management is a team effort,” said EMA Director Spencer Hawkins.
EMA is continuously working to keep our community safe and prepared. On June 11, EMA will hold another weather radio giveaway. Click here for more information.

Hawkins also wants to stress to people that follow local media and weather forecasters on their social media channels to make sure they get as much information as possible about emergencies and severe weather.
