Last week, April 14-18, Macon-Bibb County’s Council of Clergy and Hope for the Heart of Georgia celebrated Holy Week. The week is a Christian celebration and concentration of faith which deepens the believer’s dedication and commitment to the principles that Christ taught, such as, brotherly love, forgiveness, unity and equality of man, and peace.
In Macon-Bibb County, the focus of the Mayor’s Council of Clergy and Hope for the Heart of Georgia is to strengthen those concepts, as well as make Macon a peaceful place to live, work, and raise families without the stress of unhealthy racial relations.
“Holy Week is a wonderful time to focus on what is good in all of us and should be a unifying force for a better community,” said Macon-Bibb Community Affairs Executive Director Dr. Henry Ficklin. “The homily by different ministers across the community is always very powerful and impactful as the meetings are held at various churches in different parts of the county.”
Every day during the week, a different church held a worship service followed by lunch and music. Services were held at Abundant Life Church, Unionville Baptist, Holy Spirit Catholic, Victory Church Macon, and Union Baptist Church.
This is the second year Mayor Lester Miller spoke at all worship services, giving him a chance to interact with the people in all parts of our community. He provided helpful and healthy information.
“This was a great way to go into different neighborhoods and learn from one another,” said Mayor Miller. “I am so proud of what our communities have built and how they work to make their area a better place.”
