Students in our Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS) group were given the opportunity to go up to Atlanta to tour the State Capitol.
They were able to meet important state leaders and learn about how decisions are made at a state level.
“This helped me learn a lot about how the government works. It was a good learning opportunity,” said Mount de Sales student Gabriel Howard. “It was very informative. I didn’t know that Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s portrait was on the Governor’s level, which was cool to learn.”
“I go back and forth with what I want to do, but it always falls under social studies, whether it’s law, education, or international affairs,” said Howard High School student Chandler Daniel. “So, being in GCAPS has taught me that sometimes you have to help people where you start before you can help people outside of your area.”
This trip is one of the final meetings for GCAPS where they get to learn about how the government works.
