The Middle Georgia Community Food Bank is in the process of delivering food to tens of thousands of people throughout our entire region, including one at the Macon Coliseum on Thursday, April 9, 2020. At that event, more than 30,000 meals were distributed with the help of volunteers from the United Way of Central Georgia, Macon-Bibb government, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, the Coliseum, and faith-based organizations.

According to Jeff Battcher, who serves on the Board of the Food Bank and helped organize the event, about 30,000 meals were distributed to nearly 1,200 cars, some people waiting in line for nearly two hours.

“This just shows the need in our community, especially during a pandemic when people are unsure when they’ll get another paycheck, essential food items are hard to find, and stress levels are higher because of the unknowns,” says Battcher. “We wouldn’t have been able to do this without the support of some great organizations and the donations of people from all over Middle Georgia.”

To donate to the Food Bank, help volunteer, or learn when the next distributions will be, contact them through Facebook or their website. People can also call 211 or go to 211.org to find the closes food pantry.
