NewTown Macon invites families to downtown Macon to kick off the summer this First Friday. NewTown Macon will offer its Family Fun Zone with activities for the entire family to enjoy, including music, games, and crafts. The event takes place in the Third Street park median between Cherry Street and Poplar Street on Friday, June 3 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.

NewTown Macon offers the Family Fun Zone during First Friday as a welcoming space for families to enjoy and experience downtown Macon. Each month, NewTown activates Third Street Park with games, crafts, and activities sponsored by community partners. This month, NewTown Macon has partnered with the Boys and Girls of Central Georgia, Library Without Walls (WOW), and the 567 Center for Renewal to offer family-friendly activities during June First Friday.

“First Friday is a time that celebrates the way downtown Macon is for everybody,” said Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia’s VP of Mission Advancement, Rachelle Mosely. “From a Club Kid coming from the Bloomfield neighborhood to a senior citizen down the road, NewTown Macon hosts activities that are family-friendly and appeal to everyone. Their initiatives are an important piece in cultivating a community that is inclusive and creates a safe space for all Macon residents to have fun. We are happy to be included in this First Friday’s activities and hope to see some new faces at the Family Fun Zone and at our upcoming Great Ocmulgee River Duck Race!”

Activities during this month’s Family Fun Zone include live music by Green Grass Green, a clay sculpture activity promoting the Macon Sculpture Walk provided by the 567 Center for Renewal’s Art Cart, lawn games, and Library Without Walls (WOW). The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia will also be present to introduce their giant, inflatable duck, Earnie –their mascot for the upcoming Great Ocmulgee River Duck Race on June 11. Kids will be able to join him in a fun photobooth, complete with mini-rubber duckies to pose with as well.

“Through the Macon Action Plan, the community cited the need and desire for more family-friendly activities in our urban core,” said Emily Hopkins, Director of Place at NewTown Macon. “We established the Family Fun Zone to welcome and encourage families to visit downtown Macon and experience it from a kid-friendly lens. We are thrilled to partner with the Boys and Girls Club, Library WoW, and The 567 Center for Renewal to kick off the summer and encourage families to make downtown Macon one of their regular destinations this season!”

Families can also pick up a Downtown Macon bingo card and complete it for the chance to win a $100 gift card to the downtown business of their choice.

The Family Fun Zone is free and open to the public. For more information and a complete list of activities, visit NewTown Macon’s Facebook page or newtownmacon.com.
