The statewide Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs (GAFC) proudly announces Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Marvin Riggins as its Georgia Fire Chief of the Year. The award was presented at the 2016 Georgia Fire Service Conference held in Augusta, Ga. on August 13, 2016.
Riggins is a 37-year veteran of the fire service. He worked his way up the career ladder from Private to the esteemed rank of Fire Chief with the Macon-Bibb Fire Department. He was appointed to his current position as Fire Chief of the county of Macon-Bibb in 2008. Chief Riggins is a graduate of Central Georgia Technical College, Macon State College and received his Master’s in Public Administration from Georgia College and State University.
The award selection highlights that Chief Riggins career is abundant with awards, a few of which are; he is 3-time firefighter of the year, Macon Optimist Club Community Service Award, Paramedic of the Year, and received the President’s award from Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs in 2009.
GAFC Immediate President Robert Singletary said “Marvin and I came up through the ranks together. We have had the opportunity to work together several times over the past 10 to 15 years. I had the opportunity to witness Marvin’s leadership abilities firsthand after the tragic line of duty death his department suffered. Marvin is very deserving of this award.”
