The Public Works Department will continue picking up debris from side of the road the week of Monday, April 18. So fa, they and the Georgia Department of Transportation crews collected about 224 tons. The debris came from piles along the side of the road put there from the previous week by crews from the county, Georgia Forestry Commission, private contractors, and residents.

“Our crews and the DOT crews worked 12-hour days this past week to get almost all of our rights of way cleared,” says Time Wilder, Public Works Director. “With the number of trees and amount of debris that has fallen in the hardest hit areas and the rest of the county, we want to give people another weekend to move it to the curb so our crews can get it all.”

If you have debris on your property, make sure it is moved to the side of the road and trees and limbs are cut into sections four feet or shorter. To report a pile of storm or tornado debris needing to be picked up, call Public Works at 478-803-0490.
