Cox Communications staff and people from around our community spent half of the day on Tuesday, May 31, cleaning up streets along Lynmore Estates as part of the Great American Cleanup, which takes place annually from March 21 to June 21.
During this time, communities across the United States hold cleanup efforts and beautification events. The group of volunteers not only included Cox employees from Macon and Atlanta, but the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Neighborhood Watch Triad, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful (KMBB) Board members, Macon Mental Health Matters, Macon Violence Prevention, and Commissioner Paul Bronson.
“Environmental sustainability is a huge focus for the company, and this is one way we can help out locally,” said Cox Public Affairs Specialist Chris Howard. “We’re all about supporting the communities that we serve. Volunteerism is a big part of that, and now that we can gather again, this seemed like the perfect fit. We also want to help Macon-Bibb look the best it can.”
Together, the group collected about 40 bags filled with trash, litter, and debris along Houston Avenue from Lynmore Avenue to Newber Avenue.
“As the Executive Director of Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful, I strive to actively engage volunteers, local businesses, industries, and civic leaders to improve Macon-Bibb’s environment,” said KMBB Executive Director Asha Ellen.
KMBB provided cleaning supplies such as trash bags, safety vests, trash pickers, and gloves. If other organizations are interested in hosting a community cleanup, they can contact KMBB Executive Director Asha Ellen at asha.ellen@kmbbc.org.
