On Tuesday, April 8, Macon Mental Health Matters (MMHM) held its second Cooking and Counseling session at the Robert Train Building where six people showed up to cook and get counseling in a group setting. They cooked ribeye, sauteed green beans, broccoli, and mashed potatoes with guidance from local chef DeAndre Hall.
“We explored how cooking can be a mindful, grounding practice and talked through practical ways to manage stress and stay emotionally balanced,” said MMHM Director Andrea Cooke. “This class is a reminder that food can be a gateway to connection, conversation, and care for us and each other, you can find an opportunity to practice mental wellness in any activity.”
This class is for a seasoned cook or just starting out and happens every second Tuesday of the month. Participants are able to experience an engaging evening that blends cooking demonstrations with meaningful conversation around mental well-being. They learn to prepare delicious, balanced meals while exploring practical tools to manage stress, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.
