On Monday, April 4, students at Cirrus Academy Charter School took time out of their school day to make their neighborhood cleaner.
Students in fifth through eighth grade grabbed bags, trash pickers, and gloves to pick up litter surrounding the school just off Pio Nono Avenue. The students were joined by teachers, campus police, and our new Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful (KMBB) Executive Director Asha Ellen.
“One of my favorite bible verses is Proverbs 22:6. ‘Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.’ I am so proud of the young scholars at Cirrus Academy for their continuous commitment and dedication to the Clean Streets Matter initiative,” said Ellen. “It’s important we educate our young people at an early age about the importance of keeping Macon-Bibb Beautiful. “
“Cirrus Academy understands how important it is to teach children from a young age the importance of civic engagement to build community health and pride,” said Reverend Jarvis Adside, Community Service Liaison and Health & Wellness Coordinator for Cirrus Academy. “These young people are excited to do their part and make a difference in our neighborhood. We’re proud and grateful to partner with Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful for this event.”
The students’ efforts were part of the County-wide Cleanup on Saturday, April 2, where dozens of groups took part in cleaning our streets.
