Annual assessment notices being mailed May 15

May 15, 2020

The Board of Tax Assessors will mail state-mandated annual notices to all Macon-Bibb County taxpayers on May 15, 2020. The notices will be mailed to the owner of record as of the valuation date, January 1, 2020. Changes to tax laws resulting from Senate Bill 346 require that all property owners be provided information annually as to the valuation, assessment, and estimated taxes that will be owed on their properties.

The annual assessment notices that include valuation changes are primarily related to improvements, new construction, land splits, or areas where sales warrant such a change. Sale changes were based on sales that occurred during 2019. While the notices contain an estimate of taxes owed on each property, these estimates are based on the 2019 millage rates and exemptions as required by law; the actual taxes owed on a property may change from the estimate provided in the notice due to final approval of the millage rates by the Macon-Bibb County Commissioners and the Board of Education as well as any exemptions on the property.

In an effort to protect our employees and property owners due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Macon-Bibb County Tax Assessors Office will be CLOSED to the public during the appeal period. You may still contact our office by telephone at 478-621-6701 Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Appeals can be filed by U.S. mail or by depositing in a drop box located outside our office at 653 Second Street by the deadline on the assessment notice. The notices advise that property owners may appeal a property’s valuation by filing a written appeal within 45 days of receipt of the notices. Property owners are not required to take any action in response to the notices, unless they so choose. Please visit our website at www.bibbassessors.com for more information.
