On Tuesday, May 17, during the Commission Meeting, Mayor Lester Miller presented a proclamation for National Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month.   

The first ten days of May were chosen to coincide with two important milestones in Asian/Pacific American history which are the arrival in the United States of the first Japanese immigrants (May 7, 1843) and contributions of Chinese workers to the building of the transcontinental railroad, completed May 10, 1869. 

Macon-Bibb County has a growing number of Asian/Pacific American residents that have contributed greatly to our economic well-being with its small and large businesses. Our office of Small Business Affairs is working to support all small businesses. District 5 Commissioner Seth Clark presented the proclamation to Anthony Quan Hong and Damir “Wee Man” Quan Hong, along with Gladys Propes who owns Asian Bliss Market, and Director of Small Business Affairs, Charise Stephens.
