Local physicians still want you to familiarize yourself with ways to live heart healthy, so Mayor Lester Miller joined Atrium Health Navicent and the American Heart Association to issue a proclamation naming February as American Heart Month in Macon-Bibb County.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, killing approximately 659,000 Americans each year (1 in every 4 deaths). Deaths related to heart disease are particularly high in Central Georgia. Macon-Bibb County residents have increased risk with 276.2 deaths per 100,000 people.
“Through community awareness about how to make heart healthy choices, an important opportunity exists to unite the citizens of Central Georgia to prevent heart disease deaths,” states the proclamation. You can read the full proclamation here.
