More than 500 people made their way to the Macon Mall on Wednesday, May 7, to celebrate Macon-Bibb being the first community in the nation to be designated an Age-Friendly City by AARP and the World Health Organization. Attendees enjoyed music, dancing, a drum circle, food, and—most importantly—access to local resources.
“This event was a great opportunity to inform, highlight, and entertain the Macon-Bibb community of all ages,” said Myrtle Habersham with AARP. “People also got to learn about the work being done by our current leadership to improve the quality of life for all residents.”
The celebration was free and open to everyone.
Mayor Lester Miller spoke about the ongoing work in Macon-Bibb County, alongside AARP representatives. He also presented a special proclamation to Myrtle Habersham for her contributions to AARP and the local community.
