After being postponed last weekend due to inclement weather, the Department’s FREE, family-friendly Touch-A-Truck & Safety Day has been rescheduled for Saturday, October 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Families will have the chance to get an up-close look at fire trucks and equipment, meet local firefighters, and learn important safety tips that could help save lives.
There will be something for everyone, including hands-on fire extinguisher training, car seat installation assistance, swim safety information, food, children’s activities, and tours of the Fire Department’s facility. Anyone interested in becoming a firefighter can also learn more about recruitment opportunities.
“We may have had to push the event back a week, but we’re excited to welcome everyone out this Saturday,” says Fire Chief Shane Edwards. “This is a great opportunity for families to have fun, meet our firefighters, and learn important safety skills that could one day save a life.”
While Fire Prevention Week has officially wrapped up, the Department’s commitment to keeping our community safe continues year-round. Firefighters regularly visit schools, daycares, churches, and community organizations to share fire and life safety information.
Residents can also request free smoke alarm installations, home fire safety inspections, and community safety presentations throughout the year. The Fire Prevention Office is available Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
