Macon-Bibb County celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month on Tuesday, October 6, as Mayor Lester Miller presented an official proclamation during the County Commission Meeting, recognizing the culture, contributions, and impact of the Hispanic community.

Dozens of Hispanic residents gathered for the special recognition, representing a wide range of backgrounds, professions, and countries. Among those in attendance were local business owners, educators, law enforcement officers, media professionals, faith leaders, and families who help make Macon-Bibb County the diverse community it is today.

Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually from September 15 through October 15, honoring the histories, cultures, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. In Macon-Bibb County, where Hispanic residents make up approximately five percent of the population, the recognition was an opportunity to celebrate a community that continues to grow and make its mark.

The celebration also highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for people of different cultures and backgrounds to come together, share their traditions, and learn from one another.

The recognition comes as Macon-Bibb County prepares for the 5th Annual Macon-Bibb Hispanic Festival, happening Saturday, October 24, from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Cherry Street Plaza in Downtown Macon.

The free, family-friendly festival will feature live music, dancing, authentic food, Hispanic-owned businesses, children’s activities, and more. The event is open to everyone and is designed to celebrate Hispanic culture while bringing the entire community together.

Now in its fifth year, the festival continues to grow, providing a space for Hispanic families, entrepreneurs, and community members to share their culture and celebrate the contributions they make to Macon-Bibb County.
