This past December, Macon-Bibb County reopened the block of Second Street between Cherry and Poplar Streets to vehicular traffic after a short event with comments from Mayor Robert Reichert, Commissioners, SPLOST Advisory Committee Chair Jeffery Monroe, and representatives from TY Lin International and Chris R. Sheridan & Co.

MaconBibbTV was there to cover this milestone event, and you can watch that coverage – including interviews, improvements, and more – by clicking here.

This portion of the Second Street Corridor project was funded by the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax and added bike lanes, reverse angle parking (see diagram below on how to use this parking), landscaping, shade trees, benches, improved sidewalks, an irrigation system, and more. In addition to the work being completed with SPLOST funds, Georgia Power, Atlanta Gas Light, and the Macon Water Authority used this opportunity to upgrade and improve its electrical system to meet the growth taking place Downtown.
