Halloween is almost here, and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office wants to make sure everyone has a fun and safe night of trick-or-treating!

Halloween falls on Saturday, October 31, and the Sheriff’s Office recommends trick-or-treating between 5:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Before families head out for a night of costumes, candy, and spooky fun, Sheriff David Davis and the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office are sharing a few important safety reminders.

For trick-or-treaters and families:

  • Choose costumes that are easy to walk in and visible to drivers. Consider adding reflective tape or carrying glow sticks and flashlights.
  • Make sure masks fit properly and don’t block vision. Face paint is another great option!
  • Young children should always be accompanied by an adult, and groups should stick to well-lit streets and planned routes.
  • Cross streets at corners, look both ways, and avoid walking between parked cars.
  • Wait until you’re home to enjoy your candy so parents can inspect treats and throw away anything that isn’t commercially wrapped and sealed.

For drivers:

The Sheriff’s Office also reminds motorists to slow down and stay alert, especially in neighborhoods where children may be walking. Watch carefully at intersections, curbs, and medians, and eliminate distractions while behind the wheel.

Families can also consider attending organized Halloween celebrations as a fun alternative to traditional trick-or-treating.

Whether you’re handing out candy, taking the kids around the neighborhood, or driving through town, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to do their part to keep Halloween safe and enjoyable for all!
