Story by Communications Intern Dexter Whitby, Jr. – Macon-Bibb County Fire Department wants you to take precautions to ensure your safety and that of those around you. Accidents are often preventable.
“Identify the individual is above the age of 18,” said Seargant Carell Rembert, “make sure they have not consumed any alcoholic beverages.”
While firework accidents aren’t common in Macon-Bibb, they can still happen. The Fire Department wants to make sure they don’t happen.
According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, there were 15 firework-related deaths in 2025 and 13,000 injuries.
- Have a bucket of water nearby
- If the firework doesn’t ignite, don’t attempt to reignite. Throw it away Maintain a 50-75 feet distance from bystanders, buildings, or other fireworks
Evacuate the area after lighting a firework - Read instructions carefully
- Never turn back on fireworks after lighting
Macon-Bibb County Ordinance states that the curfew for setting off fireworks is from 10:00 a.m until 11:59 p.m on July 3 and July 4.
