“It’s such a success story, we’re proud to play a small part of it,” says Cadence Bank Georgia Regional President Spencer Strickland of a $5,000 donation made to the Brookdale Resource Center through the United Way of Central Georgia. 

 The Brookdale Resource Center was selected because of its ongoing and growing success helping provide people with safe shelter, access to mental health and drug counseling, assistance with getting documentation (ID cards, for example), finding jobs, and, most importantly, finding permanent housing. 

“We’re so grateful for Cadence Bank stepping forward to help people like this,” says Brookdale Resource Center Director Alison Bender, pointing out they currently have 82 people living there. That includes 33 children. “Our residents need the support of our entire community because their needs are all so different, and it’s leadership like what Cadence Bank is showing that is helping us meet those needs.”

“This is going to be of great help to the people living here, the people who need us the most,” says Mayor Lester Miller. “The outpouring of support by the community – both by individual people and businesses – has been overwhelming and is a huge part of why the staff has been so life-changing for so many people in need.” 

“In its first year, the Center served more than 1,000 people, and we are in the planning stages to expand the programs and services offered,” says United Way CEO George McCanless. “With each person that walks through the doors, we want to be ready to meet their every need and help them find a good job and housing.” 

“We try to be strategic about where our grants go because we want to make sure they help the most people as much as possible, and the Brookdale Resource Center, in just a short time, has proven itself invaluable in helping people who are experiencing homelessness,” adds Strickland.
