Georgia Governor Brian Kemp issued a statewide Shelter in Place Executive Order on Thursday, April 2, 2020, due to the continued spread of the Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). The Order goes into effect Friday, April 3 at 6:00 p.m. and lasts until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, April 13, 2020.

The Governor, in the Order and guidance, lays out what types of businesses can and can’t be open, what those that are open should do, what types of jobs are essential, and what people should do during this time. To read all the details, click here.

Mayor Robert Reichert held a press conference Friday to let people know how the Order impacts Macon-Bibb County and to provide information to small businesses that have been negatively impacted. The Mayor stressed the importance of everyone fully complying with the Governor’s Order to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

“Modeling and projections by the Department of Health, the CDC, and others suggest that this situation will get worse before it gets better,” said the Mayor, stressing that as the need for this further action across the state.
