At the Macon-Bibb County Commission Meeting on November 19, 2019, Pastor Roy Wesley, Sr. from New Zion Baptist Church led the invocation.
Pastor Roy is married to Marjorie Flowers Wesley and they have two sons who have given them two daughters, and four grandchildren. They moved to Macon, Georgia and in August 2006, became the Pastor and Leading Lady of the New Zion Baptist Church. He is active in the Association and serves as Treasurer of the Congress of Christian Education. It is the Pastor’s desire to lead the people of God into a deeper understanding of the will of God.
Brent King from Boy Scouts Troop 109, and William Burrs, a Bear Cub in scouting, led the Commission and audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Brent King is a 5th grader at Veterans Elementary, now in Troop 109 on his way to Eagle Scout. He has his Arrow of Light Badge and working on his 1st Merit Badge. He’s an A student, the oldest of 4, loves Scouting and doing Community Service where needed. Brent writes songs and sings. Brent also has a yellow belt in Tae Kwando. He has received a certificate from the Bibb County School District Superintendent for Technology. Brent comes back to recite the pledge after battling issues with Juvenile Diabetes.
William Burrs is a 3rd grader at Veterans Elementary School. He is in the gifted program for the 3rd year. William is the only boy in his family and has 4 sisters. He loves Scouting and he’s a great helper around the house and now he’s a Bear Cub. William also has a yellow belt in Tae Kwando. It teaches him discipline.

Old Business:
Commissioners did not approve issuing a Request for Approvals to engage a company to conduct a study of salary, benefits, and job classification.
The Board approved supporting the Macon-Bibb Urban Development Authority in securing $900,000 for improvements to Rosa Parks Square. The money will come from the sale of the Willie Hill Annex building.
Commissioners accepted certain roads for public use as part of the County Road System.
The Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding with the Land Bank Authority for the acquisition of blighted properties using voter-approved SPLOST funds.
Commissioners approved an agreement with Ingram & Associates Consulting Engineers, LLC for improvements to Pursley Street.
The Board approved amending the Title VII Compliance Policy and Plan, and the Title VI Compliance and Policy Plan.
Commissioners appropriated $1,066,084 in SPLOST funds for infrastructure improvements related to the Central City Commons project downtown. You can read more about it here.

- Up to $75,000 in SPLOST funds for new lighting and court resurfacing at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center
- $202,000 in SPLOST funds for resurfacing and repairs on courts at Tattnall Square and John Drew Smith Tennis Centers
- $471,500 in SPLOST funds to purchase lights from Musco Lighting for John Drew Smith Tennis Center
- $110,220 in SPLOST funds to install those lights at John Drew Smith Tennis Center
- A resolution to amend the SPLOST project timeline to reflect these tennis upgrades
The Board also approved $159,995 in SPLOST funds for Surface Masters, Inc. to repair and rest ripe the parking lot at the Bloomfield-Gilead Recreation Center.
Commissioners approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency and the Georgia Emergency Management Agency for application and profile records related to application for a performance grant.
The Board voted to reject all bids related to the RFP regarding the operation of the Vehicle Maintenance Parts Shop.
