Marvin Land, Public Works Director, has been named the District 8 Director for the Georgia Chapter of the American Public Works Association, which represents the Public Works field in 22 counties.
Also serving the public works field in the region were four employees elected to serve on the Executive Committee of the Middle Georgia Branch: April Rogers, Public Works Administrative Assistant, as President; Sam Kitchens, Parks & Beautification Director, as President-Elect; Kelly Bowden, Parks & Beautification Office Assistant, as Secretary; and Sandra Yates, Public Works Administrative Service Manager, as Membership Coordinator.
Marvin’s responsibility the next year will be to help further educate people working in the field, including keeping them updated on technological advances, promoting career opportunities to college students, and to assist with scholarship opportunities for students pursuing a career in public works or engineering. As District Director, he will serve on the Governing Body of the Georgia Chapter as a member of its Executive Committee.
“It is an honor and privilege to be nominated and elected by the peers and representatives from your career field to represent them at the state level,” says Marvin. “Being a part of this organization helps us stay on track and in line with the best ways to get our jobs done for our communities, and I’m excited to help improve our work in Macon-Bibb but also the entire state.”
The American Public Works Association serves professionals in all aspects of public works. The primary objective of APWA is to create a valuable connections and solutions for those serving our communities through Public Works.
