The Macon-Bibb County Commission will recognize, honor, and thank Vietnam Veterans living in Middle Georgia for their service to their community and country. The ceremony will also commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War and will take place on November 17, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. in Commission Chambers at Government Center (700 Poplar Street).
“We are indebted to the brave men and women who serve our country and community, whether we are at war or at peace,” says District 3 Commissioner Elaine Lucas.
Vietnam Veterans will be personally recognized during the ceremony and provided a commemorative certificate. They are asked to contact the Mayor’s Office at 478-751-7170 to provide their name and service information so the certificates can be printed for the ceremony.
“It’s been 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War, and those that served deserve to be recognized for continuing to give back locally and across Georgia and the United States,” says Mayor Robert Reichert, who joined the United States Army in 1969 and served in the Vietnam War with the 1st Air Calvary Division as a helicopter pilot from 1970 to 1971.
