The Office of Community Affairs (OCA) now has its first intern working to help our community more efficiently. This week, Wesleyan College student Elizabeth Almena started working alongside the Clerk of the Commission’s Office, Office of Small Business Affairs (OSBA), County Attorney’s Office, and the OCA

“Elizabeth will be working with the OSBA to support small businesses, strengthen our workforce development partnerships, and develop our Spanish speaking outreach,” said OSBA Director Charise Stephens.

Almena is a first-generation immigrant who has always had a passion for helping people in her community. She is currently double majoring in Accounting and Advertising, Marketing, and Communications. She previously interned for the Career Development Center at Wesleyan.

“Elizabeth has shown in just a few hours she is an excellent choice for this work,” said Community Affairs Executive Director Dr. Henry Ficklin. “She’s smart, enthusiastic, and willing to learn the various functions of the county government. As our first intern, she is certainly setting the a high bar high. I think she will learn a lot and do well in government.”

The internship runs 200 hours, but interns can work up to 25 hours a week, if class permits.
