On Thursday, September 11, the Macon-Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation hosted its annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at Public Safety Memorial Park in Downtown Macon. Beginning at 8:45 a.m., the community came together to honor the lives lost in the 2001 terrorist attacks and to recognize the first responders who bravely saved others that day.

The ceremony featured a Presentation of Colors by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office and the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department Honor Guard. Roses were placed on the Memorial by representatives from both agencies, symbolizing that Macon-Bibb will never forget the sacrifices made by those who served their community and country.

“This ceremony allows us to take a moment each year to honor and remember those we lost during these horrific attacks and those who put their lives at risk,” said Warren Selby with the Foundation.

A wreath was placed at the Memorial in remembrance of those who died on 9/11 and in honor of all men and women in public safety. The solemn moment was accompanied by bagpiper Steven Bicknell’s moving rendition of Amazing Grace. To close the ceremony, the Georgia State Patrol Aviation Division conducted a flyover above the park, weather permitting, providing a powerful reminder of resilience and unity.

“Each September we pause not just to reflect on the tragedy of 9/11, but to remember the courage, the compassion, and the unity that followed,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “This remembrance ceremony is important because the lives we lost changed us, reminding us that in times of unspeakable loss, community and service are what see us through.”
