All pools will open for the 2016 summer season on Friday and Saturday, May 27 and 28, 2016. With the addition of 14 lifeguards, the Macon-Bibb County Recreation Department will be opening all four of the public pools this summer Tuesday through Friday from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. All pools will be closed on Sundays and Mondays.  The cost to get into the pools will be $1.00, with an additional $1.00 to use the slide at the East Macon Community Center.

Public pools are located at East Macon Community Center (3326 Ocmulgee East Boulevard), Bloomfield Community Center (4115 Lions Place), Frank Johnson Community Center (2227 Mercer University Drive), and Booker T. Washington Community Center (391 Monroe Street).

The Recreation Department is still hiring for lifeguards. To be a lifeguard, a person must be 15 years old and can pass the American Red Cross swim test, and they can make $10.03 per hour. For people interested in being a lifeguard that are NOT certified, the Parks and Recreation Department will pay for the certification, as long as you work at one of its pools this summer.

For questions about the lifeguard position and training, contact the Parks and Recreation Department at 478-621-6280. To apply for the position, either visit www.maconbibb.us and click on the “Employment” tab, or stop by the Human Resources Department at 682 Cherry St, Suite 400, to fill out an application. The Human Resources Department is open from Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
