On Friday, February 27 Georgia Power presented a check to the Facilities Management Department for more than $25,000. This is the latest rebate check received by Macon-Bibb County as part of Georgia Power’s Commercial Energy Efficiency Program. Since 2011, Macon-Bibb has earned more than $52,000 in rebates.

In 2014, Facilities Management installed high efficiency lighting at North Macon Park, Memorial Park, Freedom Park, Rosa Jackson Center, Bloomfield Recreation Center, Frank Johnson Park, and East Macon Park.  The new Tax Commissioners’ Office on Third Street included high efficient lighting, a new roof, and a reflective coating on the roof.

Georgia Power’s Energy Efficiency Program helps Macon-Bibb conserve energy and save money by installing highly efficient lighting, roofing, heating and cooling systems, and other efficient electric equipment.  “We are dedicated to helping customers make smart energy choices and identify ways to save money and lower their overall energy costs,” said Denise Martin for Georgia Power. “This rebate recognizes a concentrated effort by Macon-Bibb County, and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with them to make their buildings even more energy efficient in the future.”

Macon-Bibb County – and previously the former City of Macon and Bibb County governments – have been taking efforts to conserve energy, increase greenspace, encourage healthier living, and clean up neighborhoods. Soon after consolidation, Macon-Bibb relaunched the Green Team to help identify ways in which the new government could be more environmentally friendly.

Efforts over the past few years have resulted in hundreds of thousands of pounds of debris picked up, focused neighborhood services, retrofitted lighting, blight removal, and more. These efforts have brought state recognition from the Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation. (For more information about the awards, click here.)

Georgia Power’s Commercial Energy Efficiency program includes educational resources, rebates and incentives available to all commercial customers such as school systems, universities, hospitals and museums. Improvements that may qualify for a rebate from Georgia Power include upgrading interior and exterior lighting, installing high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, cooking equipment and many more.
