January is a time for fresh starts, and Macon Mental Health Matters (MMHM) is kicking off the new year by bringing the community together for a Wellness Weekend focused on connection, movement, and mental well-being.

The weekend kicks off on Friday, January 9, with the Women’s Wellness Circle at 10:00 a.m. This gathering brings together a diverse group of people and organizations to discuss mental health and wellness topics impacting Macon-Bibb County. The meeting will be held in person at the Booker T. Washington Center (401 Monroe Street), with a virtual option available via Zoom. Click here for the Zoom link.

Later that evening, people are invited to unwind with yoga at Wellness Hug (476 3rd Street, Suite 2), at 6:00 p.m. This free yoga session offers a welcoming space to release the stress of the week and reset for the weekend. The class is open to all experience levels and will be led by instructor Shanteria Lowe.

The Wellness Weekend wraps up on Saturday, January 10, with a Mental Health Pop-Up Gym from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Booker T. Washington Center (401 Monroe Street). The Pop-Up Gym provides free opportunities to care for mental health through activities such as yoga, drum circles, therapy resources, and access to fresh produce. Fruits and vegetables are provided by C-QUL with funding support from Macon-Bibb County, and yoga instruction will be guided by Paula Bleclic.

The Healing Hikes will return in March.
