General Business License renewal, Safe Haven period extended

April 9, 2021

On April 6, 2021, the Macon-Bibb County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to extend the Business License renewal and the safe haven for delinquent businesses through June 30, 2021. The extension does not remove the cost of the general business license, but it does give them more time in which to pay. Once the deadline has passed the Tax Commissioner’s Office will begin collecting from those businesses that have not paid.

“I commend Commissioner Jones and the rest of the Commission for supporting the business community, especially during the pandemic,” says Tax Commissioner S. Wade McCord.

On January 1, 2021, the Macon-Bibb County Tax Commissioner’s Office assumed responsibility for processing initial and renewal applications for general business and privilege licenses. As part of that transition, it made an electronic application available to help streamline the process for business owners.

To submit an online application for renewal, visit www.maconbibbtax.uschoose the “General and Alcohol Licensing” tab on the left, and click on “Online Applications.” You will then be guided with prompted questions through the renewal process and provided instructions regarding required supporting documentsPlease ensure you are uploading all proper forms to avoid delays.

“Even though there were some challenges, this transition and our new process have been a great success. I highly recommend people take advantage of our online service,” adds McCord. “I am proud of the accomplishments of our business services department.”

A business owner may also submit the application by mail. To do so, you download the form titled under “Printable Applications for Mail-In Submission” from the website. Once completed, the form, documentation, and appropriate fee can be mailed to:

Macon-Bibb Tax Commissioner’s Office

PO Box 4503

Macon, GA 31208-4503

Inperson applications, documentation, and fees can be dropped off at the Tax Commissioner’s Office at 188 Third Street Tuesdays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Applications will be processed in the order they are dropped off, and a copy of the license will be mailed once it’s issued.
