Pastor Isom Walter Evans, Sr. of Progressive Baptist Church led the Invocation at the October 16 Commission Meeting.

The Pledge of Allegiance at the October 16 Commission Meeting was led by Macon-Bibb 4-H members Molly Prevett and Tiffany Erthal. Ms. Prevette is in the 6th grade at the Academy for Classical Education, and Ms. Erthal is in the 8th grade at Rutland Middle School.

The Mayor and Commission presented a proclamation to Myrtice C Johnson in honor of Retired Educators Day in Georgia.

Commission proclaimed October as National Cyber Security Month in Macon-Bibb and recognized IT Department for its ongoing efforts to improve cybersecurity in Macon-Bibb.

A Commercial Lease Contract was authorized for office space for the Georgia Cooperative Extension Services. Check them out to see all they offer our community through a variety of programs and services.

The HVAC control systems at the Department of Family & Child Services’ office on Oglethorpe Street was approved for upgrades

The Commission approved payment for the Land Bank Authority’s services to help lead the attack on blight. Nearly $14 million has been used to tear down houses, create parks, improve facilities, and more. The next round of the attack on blight is to begin soon, with millions of dollars allocated in the voter-approved SPLOST.

A new lease agreement with Coliseum Medical Center for use of 425 parking spaces at the Macon Coliseum. 

Health Insurance Coverage for employees was approved that would have the employer pay about 75% of coverage, and employees pay about 25%. This coverage begins January 1, 2019, and open enrollment information will be coming soon from the Human Resources Department.

Commission added a new division to Code of Ordinances regulating Short Term Vacation Rentals through registration and licensing. 

A Professional Services Contract with WMA Architects/Planners was approved for the renovation of Henderson Memorial Stadium. Funds for these improvements come from the sale of the Ed DeFore Sports Complex to the Bibb County School District. Some improvements were made prior to the start of football season.  

Commission approved buying lighting for the South Bibb Recreation Center from Musco Lighting and having Middle Georgia Outdoor Lighting handle the installation. Funds for this project come from the voter-approved SPLOST.

$300,000 in voter-approved SPLOST funds was approved as the local portion of preliminary engineering costs to replace the Tucker Road Bridge over Rocky Creek. 

WLS Construction was hired for the West Macon Baseball Fields improvement project, which will be paid for with SPLOST and Blight Remediation Program funds. 

A new connection from the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail to Rose Hill Cemetery is coming, thanks to the Parks & Beautification Department , Engineering Department, NewTown Macon, & Historic Macon. They’ll build a connection from the west side of the Spring Street Bridge to the existing trail in the Cemetery.  

A new fee schedule has been approved for Historic Bowden Golf Course, which is set to reopen to the public Friday, October 26 after undergoing a major SPLOST-funded improvement project.

Chris R Sheridan & Co has been approved as the Construction Manager at Risk for extension of 2nd St Vision Block, using a $1.5M state grant. The first block (between Cherry and Poplar Streets) has helped attract new businesses and spur activity & redevelopment.

AndCo Consulting has been selected as the Defined Contribution Pension Plan Consultant for Macon-Bibb Employee Plan. They also work with the Fire & Police Pension Plan.
