Macon – A man accused of driving the getaway car in an August 2016 Macon Pizza Hut robbery pleaded guilty Wednesday to robbery by force.
Quayshaun Varqui Adams, 25, was sentenced to 15 years, eight of them in prison, during a hearing in Bibb County Superior Court.
If the case had gone to trial, Prosecutor Sandra Matson would have presented evidence showing:
Adams and 38-year-old Reginald Dino Gilmore arrived at Pizza Hut, 5594 Houston Road, just before closing time on Aug. 5, 2016. Gilmore, wearing a hooded shirt and a ball cap, demanded money from the restaurant’s manager at gunpoint. The manager complied and Gilmore left in a car driven by Adams.
A pizza delivery driver followed Adams as he drove Gilmore to the Magnolia Court Motel, 4739 Houston Road, and relayed information back to the Pizza Hut manager and authorities.
Bibb County deputies apprehended Adams and Gilmore at the motel. The manager and pizza delivery driver identified Gilmore as the gunman who’d robbed the restaurant.
Gilmore pleaded guilty to armed robbery in November and was sentenced to 18 years in prison without the possibility of parole. He had previously been convicted of armed robbery in Washington County in 1996.
Speaking after Wednesday’s hearing, District Attorney David Cooke said, “Robberies are dangerous crimes that threaten the safety of victims and innocent bystanders. Anybody who participates as a getaway driver or lookout for a robbery should expect to go to prison.”
