City Hall Open House to Follow
A Swearing In Ceremony will be held for the new Macon-Bibb County government on December 31, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at City Hall, 700 Poplar Street.
“This is an historic moment for our community, one which we can all share and celebrate,” says Mayor-Elect Robert Reichert. “I want to thank the people of Macon-Bibb for making this possible and the Transition Task Force for their work during the past year and a half to get us where we are today.”
The Ceremony is open to the public and will include an invocation from Reverend Ronald Terry and the Presentation of Colors by representatives of the Macon Police Department, Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, and Macon-Bibb County Fire Department. Following a business meeting (agenda located below) of the new Mayor and Commission, an Open House will be held including the new Commission Offices, the Mayor’s Office, and the Customer Service Office. Light refreshments will be available at that time.
The Ceremony will be held in the Commission Chambers at City Hall and additional seating will be made available in Municipal Court, where the Ceremony will be shown live. About Macon-Bibb County Consolidation
On July 31, 2012, the voters of the City of Macon and Bibb County approved House Bill 1171, which would create a consolidated Macon-Bibb County government in January 2014. Between September 2012 and January 2014, a 15-member Transition Task Force held public meetings to take a deliberate and in-depth look at how government is currently operated, to identify best practices from across the state and country, and to build the foundation for a new government.macon_bibb_county_commission_meeting_agenda_12_31_13352
