Public pools opening, lifeguards needed

The Parks & Recreation Department will open its public pools for the 2017 summer season on Friday, May 26 from 1:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, 27 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Throughout the summer, the pools be open  Tuesday through Friday from   1:00–7:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. All pools will be closed on Sundays and Mondays. The cost to get into the pools will be $1.00, with an additional $1.00 to use the slide at the Delores A. Brooks Recreation Center (formerly known as the East Macon Recreation Center).

Public pools are located at Delores A. Brooks Recreations Center (3326 Ocmulgee East Boulevard), Bloomfield Community Center (4115 Lions Place), Frank Johnson Community Center (2227 Mercer University Drive), Memorial Park (763 Long Street), and Booker T. Washington Community Center (391 Monroe Street).

The Recreation Department is still hiring for lifeguards. To be a lifeguard, a person must be 15 years old and can pass the American Red Cross swim test, and they can make $10.03 per hour. For those interested in being a lifeguard that are NOT currently certified, the Parks and Recreation Department will train and certify all hired applicants.

The Human Resources Department is open from Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
