On Thursday, August 27, 2015, Macon-Bibb County Juvenile Court and partner agencies will dedicate the Thomas Jackson Juvenile Justice Center (560 Oglethorpe Street) with a ceremony beginning at 10:00 a.m. The event will include a recognition of the Jackson family and an unveiling of a portrait of Thomas Jackson, as well as a recognition of the Harris family for the sale of the property.

“The new Juvenile Justice Center has allowed Juvenile Court to move into an environment that permits us to best use limited resources to protect children, correct them, and ensure public safety,” says Judge Thomas Matthews. “Here we can work with our local and state partners to strengthen families and deter children from crime, and that work would not have been possible without our new facilities and the support of the community.”

Construction of the Thomas Jackson Juvenile Justice Center was funded by the voter-approved Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST). At approximately 25,000 square feet, it houses Juvenile Court and representatives and programs from the District Attorney’s Office, Public Defender, Department of Juvenile Justice, and Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The Center opened to the public with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on August 4, and you can view a feature video from MaconBibbTV of that long-awaited day by clicking here.
