“When folks fly to Macon, this will be a welcome mat to them,” said District 7 Commissioner Bill Howell, standing in front of the construction site of a new project at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport on October 6 during the groundbreaking ceremony.
In less than two years, people flying into or over Macon-Bibb County will see a 15,000-square-foot, guitar-shaped building from the sky. That building will be the brand-new Executive Terminal, home to the airport’s Fixed-Base Operator (FBO).
“We want to leave a lasting impression, and we want them to tie this FBO into ‘Where Soul Lives,’” continued Howell.
The new HighNote Executive Terminal was designed by Passero Associates and will be constructed by Sheridan Construction. It will feature a conference room for business and aviation meetings; a restaurant and bar with an outdoor patio overlooking the airfield; office spaces and a pilot store; a welcoming FBO lobby; a dedicated flight-planning area; an event lawn for community gatherings and special events; a second-floor balcony offering a panoramic view of the airport; and space for a flight school.
“This is going to bring so much value to our community,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “This is going to be another destination people will want to come out and see. It’s not just for people flying planes—this is for everyone.”
This initial phase will include the full construction of the terminal’s structure and core spaces, ensuring the building is operational and ready for occupancy.
“The journey to this moment has required perseverance, teamwork, and vision,” said Airport Deputy Director Heather Lowe. “To see this moment come to life is a moment of pride for all of us. This represents so much more than just a building—it’s a symbol of Macon’s soul.”
Construction is expected to be completed by early 2027.
