Beginning Tuesday, November 4, crews from McLeroy, Inc. will begin repaving Fulton Mill Road from Bethel Church Road to Skyview Elementary School as part of Macon-Bibb’s #PavingTheWay program. This section should take about four days to complete, and during that time, there will be intermittent traffic control. Drivers are asked to find an alternate route if they are able. If they must drive this section, they are asked to drive extra carefully around the crews.

“We want to limit the number of cars driving through the area as much as possible to create a safer environment for crews and help them complete this phase as quickly as possible,” says Clay Murphey, Macon-Bibb County SPLOST Manager.

“These roads have long needed this attention, and I’m glad our new Paving the Way program is able to fully address our concerns,” says Commissioner Raymond Wilder. “While there will be some delays while the work is done, I know everyone will be very pleased with the result. The temporary inconvenience will definitely be worth having smoother roads to drive on.”

Following this section of Fulton Mill Road, the rest of it will be repaved all the way to Eisenhower Parkway before crews repave Dixon and Rogers Roads. The three roads together equal almost 10 miles of the more than 160 miles currently being addressed through #PavingTheWay.

Roads selected for #PavingTheWay were identified through a scan of more than 1,100 miles of county-owned, paved roads. Every segment was rated on a scale of 1-100, and roads were selected based on the following criteria:

  • Roads rated 30 and below.
  • Arterial and collector roads rated below 40.
  • Connecting, nearby roads rated between 30 and 55.
  • Well-trafficked roads in industrial areas.

“We identified the worst roads in our community and are focusing first on them, as well as roads that are heavily traveled every day,” says Mayor Miler. “There isn’t a part of our county that won’t have major improvements for daily travel.”
