On Wednesday, October 8, the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department and SAFEbuilt hosted a Lunch and Learn for any contractors, architects, or people who wanted to learn more about the overview and process of permitting.

“This is a great opportunity for people looking to do work in Macon-Bibb County to get direct updates and answers if they have any questions when it comes to the permit process,” said Fire Chief Shane Edwards. “This event provides a complete overview of the process and direct contact information from each organization.”

More than 50 contractors got a chance to hear updates from Fire Chief Edwards and Warren Selby with the Appeals Board, as well as representatives from SAFEBuilt, Planning & Zoning, the Macon Water Authority, and more.

“We also want to make sure people know about our pre-submittal meetings that let us answer any questions or address any concerns before the project begins,” added Chief Edwards. “This has proven to be instrumental with larger projects in helping people understand the full process ahead of time.”

This was not mandatory for contractors or people interested in the building process. It was an opportunity to teach the design, construction, and development community about the permitting process and bring transparency.
