April 29, 2022

The County is joining Atrium Health Navicent Crescent House and the Macon-Bibb County Division of Family & Children’s Services in observing April 2022 as National Child Abuse Awareness Month.

Georgia is ranked 38th in the nation for children’s well-being, with an estimated 1 in 10 children experiencing sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. During Fiscal Year 2020, 2,460 reports were made regarding families in Bibb County. Of those cases, 750 cases were assigned as an investigation, and 458 cases were assigned as a family support in hope of preventing abuse or neglect.

The goal this month is to acknowledge that we must work together as a community to increase awareness about child abuse and continue to promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families in Macon-Bibb County.
