Four women of the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department were celebrated for their hard work, dedication, and service to our community during a special recognition ceremony on Thursday, October 22!

The Georgia Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs recognized the firefighters during a ceremony at the Fire Department’s Administration Building. Judy Heath, the organization’s longest-serving member in the state, presented a proclamation honoring the women and their contributions to public safety.

The women recognized were:

  • Victoria Dumas Heath, Macon-Bibb County Fire Department
  • Firefighter Alexis Hurst, Station #2, Bloomfield Road
  • Firefighter Jo Umberger, Station #3, Napier Avenue
  • Firefighter De-Ankara Davis, Station #10, Headquarters

The recognition highlighted the important role women play in the fire service, from responding to emergencies and protecting lives to serving as leaders and role models for future generations.

“These women show up every day ready to serve and protect our community, and we’re proud of the work they do,” said Fire Chief Shane Edwards. “They are an important part of our department, and it’s great to see them recognized for their dedication and commitment to Macon-Bibb County.”

The ceremony was also an opportunity to celebrate women in a traditionally male-dominated profession and encourage future generations to consider careers in firefighting.

Congratulations to all four women, and thank you for your continued service to Macon-Bibb County!
